Question 1

Accepted Answer

Question 2

Accepted Answer

Question 3

Accepted Answer

Question 4

Accepted Answer

Question 5

Accepted Answer

Question 6

Accepted Answer

Question 7

Accepted Answer

Question 8

Accepted Answer

Question 9

Accepted Answer

Question 10

Accepted Answer

Question 11

Accepted Answer

Question 12

Accepted Answer

Question 13

Accepted Answer

Question 14

Accepted Answer

Question 15

Accepted Answer

Question 16

Accepted Answer

Question 17

Accepted Answer

Question 18

Accepted Answer

Question 19

Can a total beginner who can't code join an AI hackathon?

Accepted Answer

Yes — total beginners are welcome. Liaoye IGNITE 48 (the 48-hour youth AI hackathon camp) is the entry point built for beginners: no coding needed beforehand, kids start from Vibe Coding on-site and mentors handle the technical support. Liaoye doesn't start from syntax precisely because kids don't need to code first; they use AI to build their ideas right inside a project. Real AI projects also need problem-spotting, research, product, design, expression, video and hardware roles, so no coding never means no participation — and parents don't need to know AI or sit in on the project. The long-term Liaoye AI-Native Program is not a beginner entry point: it requires completing IGNITE 48, or an online talent assessment by application through our advisor.

Question 20

Where should a young person start learning AI?

Accepted Answer

Finish a first complete project on stage, then think long-term — no coding needed first. Step one: use a focused block of time to finish that first project — Liaoye IGNITE 48 (the 48-hour youth AI hackathon camp: ages 8–18, two daytime days on-site, no coding background required, Vibe Coding from the start, mentors on hand throughout, and a pitch to the judges at the end). Families who can't make the two days on-site can take the same-level online alternative, the One-Day AI Build Consulting & Co-Creation (Liaoye AI Builder Day, online, 1 day, 8 hours, also open to beginners). Step two: once your child wants to keep going, the Liaoye AI-Native Program — not a beginner entry point; entry is through IGNITE 48 or an online talent assessment by application through our advisor. When Liaoye runs a city meetup near you, it's also a good first look at what kids their age are building.

Question 21

Can an 8-year-old in primary school join an AI hackathon?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Liaoye is for youth aged 8–18 — primary, middle and high school students are all welcome, and an 8-year-old registers online for the 48-hour camp just like older kids. Beyond building, teams need product ideas, user research, design and pitching, so younger kids have a real role. One of Liaoye's 9-year-old students teamed up with Shenzhen high-schoolers and took 1st in the Youzan superrun track at Adventure X.

Question 22

Does "48 hours" mean staying up for 48 hours straight?

Accepted Answer

No. The 48-hour camp is two daytime days on-site — 09:00 to 17:30 each day, with no all-nighters.

Question 23

What do kids actually do at a youth AI hackathon?

Accepted Answer

Start from a real problem, team up within a time limit, build a working product prototype with AI, then pitch it to judges. At Liaoye IGNITE 48, for example: on day one kids learn Vibe Coding in the morning and build three apps — web, desktop and networked — then team up on-site and start their project in the afternoon; on day two they sprint on the Demo, use AI to make a pitch deck and product site, deploy it publicly, let people on-site try it and fix what they find, and finally pitch to judges from tech, investment and industry.

Question 24

How do I enroll, and what's the cost?

Accepted Answer

You can register for the 48-hour camp online on this site. The fee is CNY 2,980 per student for the two days, including both lunches, AI tools and tokens, mentor support throughout, the pitch session with judge feedback and a completion certificate; travel and accommodation are not included. Free charity places for youth from families in hardship are set up with the Guangdong Guangren Tongxin Public Welfare Foundation. For the long-term AI-Native Program and the overseas tour, reach us on WeChat for dates, seats and fees.

Question 25

How is an AI hackathon different from a kids' coding class?

Accepted Answer

The way in is different. A kids' coding class usually teaches syntax and algorithms first, then builds up projects along a set curriculum; an AI hackathon starts from a real problem and has kids build the idea directly with AI and tools — training problem-finding, product judgment, collaboration, expression and iteration. Beginners can build something first and come back to code, debugging and deployment inside a real project. Coding fundamentals still matter; they're just no longer the only door in.

Question 26

I'm looking for a kids' AI class — is Liaoye a fit?

Accepted Answer

Yes, for families who want their child to actually build something. Liaoye is a project-based option: kids learn by doing inside real projects — teaming up on-site, building their own AI work, pitching on stage and taking questions from judges with different perspectives — which trains problem awareness, collaboration, expression and turning ideas into real work. Unlike a typical class, there's no fixed syllabus of tool demos and no template projects. Total beginners and kids from age 8 are welcome — they start at the 48-hour camp, which needs no coding background; the fee is CNY 2,980 per student for two days, lunches, AI tools and mentor support included.

Question 27

What is the Liaoye AI-Native Program, and how does it relate to IGNITE 48?

Accepted Answer

The Liaoye AI-Native Program (formerly the 3-Month Online AI Hackathon Program) is Liaoye's long-term project program, run as 3 + 3: two phases of 3 months each — AI Apps first, then AI Hardware, and Phase 2 requires completing Phase 1. Each phase uses multiple real projects as its training ground, so across different projects kids repeatedly go through the whole process, from finding a problem to pitching and reflecting. Both phases include mentor support, competition windows, bilingual pitching and real-world connections. Liaoye IGNITE 48 is the 48-hour youth AI hackathon challenge camp and the main way into the AI-Native Program; if attending in person isn't possible, children can also apply to our advisor for the online talent assessment. The AI-Native Program is not a beginner entry point — complete beginners start at IGNITE 48, which requires no coding background at all.

Question 28

What is the Liaoye 48-Hour AI Hackathon · International Competition Challenge Special?

Accepted Answer

It's the 48-hour AI hackathon at the Shenzhen, Ganzhou and Beijing stops (Shenzhen Nov 7–8 and Nov 28–29; Ganzhou Nov 28–29; Beijing Nov 28–29), run with an international youth AI competition in December as the goal: this time kids don't just build their own AI product in 48 hours — they come with a clear competition goal and get ready for the international stage ahead. Three highlights: an international competition goal — built around the December competition's entry requirements, from choosing the problem and creative design to product development, so kids' work has a shot at a much bigger international stage; real project practice — guided by mentors from the Tencent MyApp founding team, kids build an AI product prototype in 48 hours and sharpen it through a Demo, a pitch and mentor feedback; a real STEM track record — from building an AI project to taking on an international competition, kids gradually build up real work, project experience and competition history, valuable additions for future school applications, study abroad and a STEM portfolio. The special sessions are also a qualifying route to the Greater Bay Area Youth AI Hackathon Annual Finals in January 2027: outstanding projects advance to the five-day finals across Shenzhen, Hong Kong and Macao. Two days offline with no all-nighters; register online on this site. More: https://liaoyehack.top/camp#intl-challenge

Question 29

Does an AI hackathon help with school admissions?

Accepted Answer

Liaoye doesn't promise prizes or admissions results. Whether it helps depends on whether the experience proves real ability: is it a problem the child genuinely wanted to solve, did they build the core themselves, did they go through debugging and failure, was there real user feedback, can the project keep evolving afterwards, and can they still explain it clearly six months later. We care about real participation, expression and growth, and help kids build a project record they can show.

Question 30

How can I tell whether a youth AI course is any good?

Accepted Answer

Look less at what the child made and more at what the child went through. Ask five questions: does it train tool operation or problem-solving? Does the teacher finish the project, or does the child build and debug it? Afterwards, can the child start a second project alone? Does the work get tested by real users? Is the teacher handing out answers, or training the child to ask, judge and decide?

Question 31

What abilities does a young person need for an international hackathon?

Accepted Answer

Less about how much tech they know, more about whether they can turn a real problem into a working demo with teammates under time pressure, and explain the problem, the solution and their own contribution in English. A steadier route: build a few small projects end to end, then join a low-barrier open hackathon to live through team-up, building, deadlines, pitching and Q&A, and only then move on to competitions with shortlists and professional judges. Liaoye trains bilingual pitching inside every project; one of our student teams made Top 10 out of 200+ international projects at the Tencent Cloud International Hackathon and pitched in English in Singapore.

Question 32

Can parents or other adults with no background learn AI too?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Liaoye's online One-Day AI Build Consulting & Co-Creation (Liaoye AI Builder Day, CNY 999 per person per session, online, 1 day, 8 hours) runs two tracks on the same day: the youth track builds a piece of work, the adult track builds a workflow. Parents and other adults can book the adult track on its own — no coding and no prior AI experience needed; the focus is stating the need clearly, breaking the task down, having AI execute, checking the result and refining it, applied to real work such as meetings, proposals, research and projects.

Question 33

Which cities host the 48-hour camp?

Accepted Answer

China Tour, now enrolling: Shenzhen Nov 28–29 (Sat & Sun), Ganzhou Nov 28–29 (Sat & Sun) and Beijing Nov 28–29 (Sat & Sun) — all two days offline with no all-nighters, all running as International Competition Challenge Specials aimed at an international youth AI competition in December; register online on this site. Shenzhen Nov 7–8 is happening now. Stops have already been held in Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Shenzhen, Fuzhou and Chengdu. Overseas Tour, stop 1 Malaysia: Johor Bahru on Nov 28–29; Kuala Lumpur (Sep 19–20) and Penang (Oct 24–25) have been held.
