Liaoye IGNITE 48 (the 48-hour youth AI hackathon camp) is the entry point built for beginners: no coding needed beforehand, kids start from Vibe Coding on-site and mentors handle the technical support. Liaoye doesn't start from syntax precisely because kids don't need to code first; they use AI to build their ideas right inside a project. Real AI projects also need problem-spotting, research, product, design, expression, video and hardware roles, so no coding never means no participation — and parents don't need to know AI or sit in on the project. The long-term Liaoye AI-Native Program is not a beginner entry point: it requires completing IGNITE 48, or an online talent assessment by application through our advisor.

How is an AI hackathon different from a kids' coding class?

The way in is different. A kids' coding class usually teaches syntax and algorithms first, then builds up projects along a set curriculum; an AI hackathon starts from a real problem and has kids build the idea directly with AI and tools — training problem-finding, product judgment, collaboration, expression and iteration. Beginners can build something first and come back to code, debugging and deployment inside a real project. Coding fundamentals still matter; they're just no longer the only door in.

Liaoye IGNITE 48 is the 48-hour youth AI hackathon challenge camp and the main way into the AI-Native Program; if attending in person isn't possible, children can also apply to our advisor for the online talent assessment. Yes — at the Shenzhen, Hangzhou and Chengdu stops, which run as a 48-Hour Family AI Hackathon: parents can join as official Builders, building one project together with their child, or each bringing a problem they genuinely want to solve — kids take on problems from school, daily life or their interests; parents take on problems from their own work, industry or real life. Parents can also sign up on their own, without a child. Parents need no coding or AI background. Parents' projects are pitched and reviewed by the judges too, but are not entered for awards. Parent participation is optional; kids can still join on their own. Competing parents are charged separately (lunch included) — ask our advisor for the amount. Does an AI hackathon help with school admissions?

Liaoye doesn't promise prizes or admissions results. Whether it helps depends on whether the experience proves real ability: is it a problem the child genuinely wanted to solve, did they build the core themselves, did they go through debugging and failure, was there real user feedback, can the project keep evolving afterwards, and can they still explain it clearly six months later. We care about real participation, expression and growth, and help kids build a project record they can show.

How can I tell whether a youth AI course is any good?

Look less at what the child made and more at what the child went through. Ask five questions: does it train tool operation or problem-solving? Does the teacher finish the project, or does the child build and debug it? Afterwards, can the child start a second project alone? Does the work get tested by real users? Is the teacher handing out answers, or training the child to ask, judge and decide?

Less about how much tech they know, more about whether they can turn a real problem into a working demo with teammates under time pressure, and explain the problem, the solution and their own contribution in English. A steadier route: build a few small projects end to end, then join a low-barrier open hackathon to live through team-up, building, deadlines, pitching and Q&A, and only then move on to competitions with shortlists and professional judges. Yes. Liaoye's online One-Day AI Build Consulting & Co-Creation (Liaoye AI Builder Day, CNY 999 per person per session, online, 1 day, 8 hours) runs two tracks on the same day: the youth track builds a piece of work, the adult track builds a workflow. Parents and other adults can book the adult track on its own — no coding and no prior AI experience needed; the focus is stating the need clearly, breaking the task down, having AI execute, checking the result and refining it, applied to real work such as meetings, proposals, research and projects.
